In 1924, with the permission of the Stoker estate, the story was adapted for the stage by Hamilton Deane, in an English touring production starring Deane himself as Van Helsing.

In 1927, the play, as substantially revised by John L. Balderston, opened on Broadway in a production starring Bela Lugosi and Edward Van Sloan as the count and Van Helsing, respectively.
